Our recent work on the phase-field modeling of fault rupture dynamics has been presented in 2021 Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) annual meeting. This work was done in collaboration with Prof. Elbanna and his student Md Shumon Mia from UIUC. I sincerely appreciate our collaborators for their supports.
The poster is titled with "Phase-field modeling of rate- and state-dependent frictional faults". It briefly introduces a newly developed phase-field approach to dynamic rupture of rate- and state-dependent frictional faults. The new approach is built upon the previous phase-field formulation for contact problems with constant friction, and it has further incorporated the rate- and state-dependent friction, and radiation damping. The phase-field model has been verified with the results from the hybrid finite element-spectral boundary integral scheme.
